چکیده

Tomato Solanum lycopersicum L. is an important crop in Kenya. Arthropod pests are major constraints to its production and farmers rely heavily on synthetic chemicals for control, which increases costs leads pollution of the environment. The objective this study was evaluate effectiveness native Kenyan fungi managing thrips as alternative pesticides. In vitro studies were conducted against Frankliniella occidentalis collected from tomato fields maintained laboratory. isolated soil samples identified based their vegetative reproductive structures. Treatments included fungal isolates a control; replicated four times arranged completely randomized design. effect F. evaluated by treating with concentrations 1.0 x107conidia ml-1. Data mortality recorded daily 10 days after treatment. subjected Analysis Variance (ANOVA) using SAS software version 9.4 test different treatments. Means separated Student Newman-Keuls at P≤0.05. Gliocladium virens, Trichoderma Fusarium solani, oxysporum afroharzianum more virulent causing mortalities above 50%. virens most potent, 62.2% adults 43.8% nymphs x107 conidia findings showed that G. potential candidate development fungal-based bio-pesticide tomato.

Development and Characterization of 18 Novel EST-SSRs from the Western Flower Thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande)

The western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande), is an invasive species and the most economically important pest within the insect order Thysanoptera. For a better understanding of the genetic makeup and migration patterns of F. occidentalis throughout the world, we characterized 18 novel polymorphic EST-derived microsatellites. The mutational mechanism of these EST-SSRs was al...

Efficacy of two predatory phytoseiid mites in controlling the western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) on cherry tomato grown in a hydroponic system

Thrips is one of the most harmful insect groups attacking many field and vegetable crops. Predatory mites, especially those in family Phytoseiidae, are considered as good bioagents to control thrips where application of chemical pesticides can be decreased. This work was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of the two phytoseiid mites, Amblyseius swirskii (Athias-Henriot) and Neoseiulus cucumeris...

virulence of iranian isolates of metarhizium anisopliae on western flower thrips, frankliniella occidentalis (pergande) (thysanoptera: thripidae)

the western flower thrips frankliniella occidentalis, an important greenhouse pest, has acquired rapid resistance to the chemical pesticides. therefore, biological control is worth consideration as an alternative control method. among the biological control agents, entomopathogenic fungi showed to be quite successful in some occasions. in this study, three iranian isolates of metarhizium anisop...

Comparison of seven methods for rearing western flower thrips Frankliniella occidentalis (Thysanoptera: Thripidae)

ABSTRACT-The species Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande),western flower thrips, is a highly polyphagous pest and an important vector of tospoviruses on several crops and ornamental plants. Western flower thrips has been introduced throughout the world and has been subject to many biological studies including mass rearing. In this survey, seven common mass rearing methods of F. occidentalis we...

Bulk development and stringent selection of microsatellite markers in the western flower thrips Frankliniella occidentalis

Recent improvements in next-generation sequencing technologies have enabled investigation of microsatellites on a genome-wide scale. Faced with a huge amount of candidates, the use of appropriate marker selection criteria is crucial. Here, we used the western flower thrips Frankliniella occidentalis for an empirical microsatellite survey and validation; 132,251 candidate microsatellites were id...
